How to Throw A Book Signing

I love a good theme party. This theme was a first, and it was so much fun! It also helps to have a friend that actually gets a book published. I had the easy part, hosting the party. She had the super hard job of researching, writing a book and getting it published!!

I wanted to celebrate my friend Anne Morrissy and her success with the launch of her book—Street Fight: The Chicago Taxi Wars of the 1920’s.

Once I saw the amazing cover, I instantly knew the party theme!

With the colors of yellow, black and white I immediately knew I would be using my MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check as the main serving pieces!

How perfect, since the Yellow and Checker Taxi companies are front and center in this book!!

I wanted to incorporate the book cover in the decorations throughout the party so, keeping things simple, I made several copies of the book jacket which I used for my floral containers.

I took various vases, cut the book cover copies to fit around the outside and taped them in place! I filled the vases with seasonal flowers in colors coordinating with the theme.

They looked wonderful and added to that personal touch. Plus they were far more economical than having floral arrangements made.

And you know I Love decorated champagne bottles!!! (Every party needs at least one!)

For this party I used the book cover copies to decoupage a couple of champagne bottles for decor and as a gift  for the author. It helped that my favorite champagne label matched our party theme!

Deciding on what time of day to have the party was one of the main decisions and we landed on late afternoon, 3-5:50pm.  From there I could focus on what to serve for refreshments. I wanted to keep things easy and simple. So I ordered charcuterie  from a local catering company @celebrationonwells. It was the perfect selection and beautifully presented! I had a tiered tray of macarons, along with some chocolates and nuts. For beverages I offered champagne, wine, sparkling and still water.

I found these fun cocktail napkins on Amazon along with the gold rimmed plastic cups that I used to serve all the beverages in.

Hosting a book signing party may be a once in a lifetime event. BUT you can take any of these simple ideas and use them for hosting your book club, a birthday party for an avid reader, or a dinner party highlighting your favorite cookbook!
